Courage
The courage of life is often a less dramatic spectacle than the courage of a final moment; but it is no less amagnificent mixture of triumph and tragedy. A man does what he must in spite ofpersonal consequences, in spite of obstacles and dangers and pressures and thatis the basis of all human morality.
To be courageous…requires no exceptional qualifications, no magic formula, no special combination of time, place andcircumstance. It is an opportunity that sooner or later is presented to us all.Politics merely furnishes one arena which imposes special tests of courage. In whatever arena of life, one may meet the challenge of courage, whatever may bethe sacrifices he faces if he follows his conscience, the loss of his friends, his fortune, his contentment, even the esteem of his fellow men, each man must decidefor himself the course he will follow. The stories of past courage can definethat ingredient, they can teach, they can offer hope, they can provideinspiration. But they cannot supply courage itself. For this each man must lookinto his own soul.

The Gift Of Love
If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrong doing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. When I was a child, I thought like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. For now we see in mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

Ambition
抱負(fù)
It is not difficult to imagine a world short of ambition. It would probably be a kinder world: without demands, without abrasions, without disappointments. People would have time for reflection. Such work as they did would not be for themselves but for the collectivity. Competition would never enter in, conflict would be eliminated, tension become a thing of the past. The stress of creation would be at an end. Art would no longer be troubling, but purely celebratory in its functions. The family would become super fluous as social unit, with all its former power for bringing about neurosis drained away, Longevity would be increased, for fewer people would die of heart attack or stroke caused by tumultuous endeavor. Anxiety would be extinct. Time would stretch on and on, with ambition long departed from the human heart.
Ah, how unrelieved boring life would be!
There is a strong view that holds that success is a myth, and ambition therefore a sham. Does this mean that success does not really exist? That achievement is at bottom empty? That the efforts of men and women are of no significance alongside the force of movements and events now not all success, obviously, is worth esteeming, nor all ambition worth cultivating. Which are and which are not is something one soon enough learns on one’s own. But even the most cynical secretly admit that success exists; that achievement counts for a great deal; and that the true myth is that the actions of men and women are useless. To believe otherwise is to take on a point of view that is likely to be deranging. It is, in its implications, to remove allmotives for competence, interest in attainment, and regard for posterity.
We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not choose our historicalepoch, the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time or conditions of our death. But within all this realm of choicelessness, we do choose how we shall live: courageously or in cowardice, honorably or dishonorably, with purpose or in drift. We decide what is important and what istrivial in life. We decide that what makes us significant is either what we do or what we refuse to do. But no matter how indifferent the universe may be to our choices and decisions, these choices and decisions are ours to make. We decide. We choose. And as we decide and choose, so are our lives formed. In the end, forming our own destiny is what ambition is about.

As is well known, books teach us to learn life, truth, science and many other useful things. They increase our knowledge, broaden our minds and strengthen our character. In other words, they are our good teachers and wise friends. This is the reason why our parents always encourage us to read more books.Reading is a good thing, but we must pay great attention to the choice of books. It is true that we can derive benefits from good books. However, bad books will do us more harm than good.

Learn to Live in the Present
To a large degree, the measure of our peaceof mind is determined by how much we are able to live in the present moment.Irrespective of what happened yesterday or last year, and what may or may nothappen tomorrow, the present moment is where you are -- always!
Without question, many of us have masteredthe neurotic art of spending much our lives worrying about a variety of things-- all at once. We allow past problems and future concerns to dominate ourpresent moments, so much that we end up anxious, frustrated, depressed, andhopeless. On the flip side, we also postpone our gratification, our statedpriorities, and our happiness, often convincing ourselves future will be betterthan today. Unfortunately, the same mental dynamics that tell us to look towardthe future will only repeat themselves so that "someday" neveractually arrives. John Lennon once said, "Life is what’s happening whilewe’re busy making other plans." When we’re busy making "otherplans", our children are busy growing up, the people we love are movingaway and dying, our bodies are getting out of shape, and our dreams areslipping away. In short, we miss out on life.
Many people live as if life were a dressrehearsal for some later date. It isn’t. In fact, no one has a guarantee thathe or she will be here tomorrow. Now is the only time we have, and the onlytime that we have any control over. When our attention is in the presentmoment, we push fear from our minds. Fear is the concern over events that mighthappen in the future -- we won’t have enough money, our children will get intotrouble, we will get old and die, whatever.
