Others saythat the opposite is true: that international contests encourage false national pride and lead inmisunderstanding and hatred. There is probably a little bit of truth in both arguments, but inrecent years the Olympic Games have done little to support the view that sports encourageinternational brotherhood.

They argue that people should be allowed to die with dignity and decidewhen they want to die. However those who are in favor of life-extending measures argue thatlife under any circumstances is better than death and that the duty of doctors is always toextend life as long as possible. People who want moreeconomic growth, on the other hand, argue that even at thepresent growth rate, there are stillmany poor people, They maintain that only continued growth can create the capital needed toimprove the quality of life and provide the financial resources required to protect our naturalsurroundings from industrialization.
