Studying the English Language in an English-Speaking Country is the Best but Not theOnly Way to Learn the Language. Do you Agree or Disagree with This Statement?

  你是否同意學(xué)習(xí)英語(yǔ)在說英語(yǔ)的國(guó)家,但這也不是的辦法學(xué)英語(yǔ)這種觀點(diǎn)?

Studying the English Language in an English-Speaking Country is the Best but Not the OnlyWay to Learn the Language . Do you Agree or Disagree with This Statement?

Learning English in an English-speaking count ry has many advantages. It is, therefore, a goodidea to learn English in Britain or America. However, I believe it is not the only way to learn thelanguage .

To begin with, most students in non-English-speaking countries learn English in high schools oruniversities. Although their spoken English is not usually of a very high standard, theirknowledge of grammar is often quite advanced. This is certainly useful when later they cometo an Englishspeaking country to perfect the language.

However, it is obviously advantageous to learn English in English-speaking countries where, every day, students will have ample chance to practise listening and speaking. In addition , students can experience the foreign culture, which greatly helps understand the language. This is especially true ifthey choose to live with an English or American family. Still, sincestudents are taught by native speakers, their reading and writing skills will improve as well .

As every coin has two sides, learning English at home also proves effective. At home studentswill have less stress and fewer problems in accommodation, expensive tuition and living costs .

In conclusion, it is preferable to study English in an English-speaking country, but areasonable level of English can be achieved at home, if a student is gifted and dedicated tostudy.

  Directions:

Suppose you are asked to give advice on whether to attend college at home or abroad, write an essay to state your opinion. You are required to write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

  參考范文:

Nowadays, there has been a heated discussion as to a better choice between attending college at home and abroad. Views on the topic vary greatly among people from different walks of life.

Some believe that it is a better choice to study in domestic colleges, but others consider it better to study abroad. I totally agree with the latter idea for the reasons presented below. To begin with, it harms the society in that the greater the competition is, the higher the recruitment requirements willbecome.

Therefore, with experiences of studying abroad, graduates will become more competitive in job hunting. Furthermore, it is beneficial to the students themselves to study abroad. Without the choice to pursue overseas study, many great scholars today would never have achieved such great success.

From my perspective, it is crucial that the government should encourage people to pursue overseas study. Also it is crucial that people should understand the meaning and value of attending college abroad.

Only in this way can we achieve greater success.

  Love and Learning

  愛情與學(xué)習(xí)

Towards love and learning, college teachers and students hold controversial views.

The majority of college teachers, especially old teachers, argue that students should give uplove and concentrate on learning. They say that campus love is time-and-energy-consumingand tears students away from their main task. If a student ever falls in love, he/she willundoubtedly neglect his/her studies and gradually lag behind his/her classmates. A fewteachers, therefore, suggest that the university authorities restore the traditional regulationagainst love during students' school years .

On the contrary, students hold that it is natural for young people to fall in love on the campusbecause they meet every day and their everyday meeting produces romantic passion towardseach other. They insist that the campus is not the Garden of Eden and love is not the ForbiddenTree. They take for example some of theirf riends who, falling in love, are studying harder andhave made greater progress to please their boy/girl friends .

In my opinion, both views are lop-sided. If a student does not give himself/herself away in lovebut takes it as a drive, love produces positive effect. But if he/she indulges himself/ herself toodeeply in love, then he/she will be a devoted lover but a frustrated learner.
